Audio Learning Material “BEAM”

BEAM is an audio learning material created by NPO EDGE under a commission from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan.
It was first made for students with dyslexia, but it can also be used by children whose first language is not Japanese, as long as they study with MEXT-approved Japanese school textbooks.
This means your child can use BEAM if they attend a Japanese school or an international school that uses the same MEXT-approved textbooks.

What Makes BEAM Special

Japanese textbooks include many proper nouns and difficult words that computer reading systems cannot pronounce correctly.
The BEAM team carefully checks and edits the pronunciation, accent, and rhythm by hand, so the voice sounds natural and easy to understand.
By listening to BEAM, your child can learn clear and natural Japanese pronunciation and accent.
All materials are provided free of charge.

How to Apply

To get BEAM, please fill out the application form and tell us:

  • Your child’s name
  • School name
  • Grade
  • Title of the textbook used

When your application is accepted (this may take about one week), you will receive an email with a link to download the materials.
